Speaking of rainfall, I was very disappointed yesterday. Here in
Ottawa, Ontario, I noticed a large (but temporary) sign
standing at the end of the exit ramp from the highway. It was a
reminder that our lawns should be getting 1 inch of water per week
(including rainfall). At best, that sign should have said 25 mm,
(with no reference to inches) since that is how the weather reports
describe rainfall. At worst, it should have indicated millimetres
(followed by inches).

I will definitely sent a letter indicating my displeasure to my
city council representative. Canada is officially metric, weather
reports are given in metric units, and children are educated in
metric. There was no reason not to include metric on that sign.
