Decimeters are seldom used;

That's what I use all the time!  I just think of it as 0.1 m or 100 mm,
depending on the job.

I find it quite 'handy' for estimating volume in litres. The width of my 'hand' is just about a decimetre wide and a litre is a decimetre cube.


So when I'm considering lifting a small fish tank full of water which is say 4 hands long, 3 hands tall and 2 hands deep it's going to weigh about 24 kg.
