I'll go with that - so I won't leave this post with any questions or the like.
I try all the time to be positive about metric. I try to promote it on its merits without necessarily knocking imperial. But it just falls on deaf ears with some people. I guess the problem is I (perhaps like Euric) spend too much time debating with those who actively oppose it. That can distort things and it does.
I think it happens on both sides. But as someone who actively uses both systems I simply can't get to that stage. Call me selfish, but if either system was somehow 'removed' then I would find certain conveniences removed from my life for an apparently political/emotional rather than practical reason.
People who (like BWMA) stand up for imperial ironically give it a bad name because they force a passionate debate by being so irrational about it.
Like USMA and UKMA the BWMA is a wide church. It has hotheads and it has moderates (like, I believe, myself). I admit that I became a member due to the likes of Euric and his alarmingly extreme pro-metric views more than anything else (example quotes: "Extreme is good, it gets things done", re: communism and metric: "It go the job done" and various fantasies about metric where metric does not exist, I particularly like "GigaEuros" in relation to the collapse of the US which *STILL* hasn't happened). So at this level, if Euric and his sort did not exist then the BWMA would be 20 quid (subs) worse off!

I understand that position - we are both preaching to the unconvertable! But I do get drawn in to the debate and enjoy it greatly. It used to frustrate me and sometimes anger me but now I see it as a really interesting insight into peoples well-formed opinions that are well worth arguing about so long as at the end of the day we, as humans, still respect and live with each other - despite the differences (to which the average man or woman on the street would find a bizzare reason for even disliking someone).
