Sorry - I didn't mean to divert the direction away from weights and measures, but it is still valid to recognise that TSOs don't just go around looking at weighing machines. They have a whole spectrum of jobs.

We are talking about weights and measures here. There are regulations governing its use in trade. The need for it may not be as dramtically obvious as the examples you quote but that doesn't mean it should be ignored or abandoned.
