I agree that micrometre would be a better choice of unit for dot pitch.

One of the outstanding features of the metric system is the ability to use the prefixes to rid entire industries of fractions — both decimal fractions and vulgar fractions.

I have noted in the past how the wise use of prefixes in the Australian building industry led to a rapid, smooth, and economical metric transition by specifying on building drawings that, 'All dimensions are in millimetres'.

It is a mystery to me why this rapid, smooth, and economical metric transition is not used as a model for other industries and (dare I say) other nations.
