We still have roundabouts in "New" England. We call them rotaries or traffic

Yes I have noticed. Traffic lights are so much better, especially when you are faced with a red light and no cross traffic so you have to stop just to obey the law and consume more fuel to get going again. A roundabout which lets you breeze through unimpeded is no fun at all.

I must admit, though, that I find roundabouts rather convenient because I can gain a significant advantage over all the other traffic. Everyone else thinks that it is necessary to be in the outer lane. When I approach a roundabout and I need the second or third exit, I enter on the inner lane and pass all the traffic congestion in the outer one. Of course that is totally unfair so eliminating roundabouts is a really good idea to thwart people like me who actually know how to use one. It also gives jobs to the people who maintain traffic lights. After all, who needs traffic lights at a roundabout? (Mind you, I have seen that combination in New Jersey so perhaps that would be the best solution all round (no pun intended)).
