Pat:
Remember, also, that metrication is a one-off expense, but not going metric
is an on going >expense that goes on year after year.
Thanks for concluding <my oft repeated> views that I, perhaps,
over-emphasised upon SEVERAL experts - who would *not admit* to an unfounded
fear! But this is where the *Central (Fedral) Governoning Body has to
intervene*. I recall my discussions with late Dr VB Mainkar (1974-75) -
former Director Weights & Measures (India), New Delhi.

Subject: [USMA:35916] Costs of non-metrication
Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2006 13:49:57 +1100
Dear All,
I have just noticed that the government of the USA has released new
estimates for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2005.
Accordingly, I have revised my article, 'Costs of non-metrication' at
http://metricationmatters/articles where you will find that the major
change
was to this paragraph:
> With reference to the USA, if you take the cost estimates from items 1
and 3
> and make a bold, but not wild, assumption that it costs about 9 % of
gross
> turnover to use dual measurements (metric and U.S. Customary) then based
on a
> 2005 estimated Gross Domestic Product for the USA of $12.735 trillion
dollars
> it costs the USA about 1.15 trillion dollars per year to use dual
measures;
> this is a bit more than $3850 per person per year.
>
> Remember, also, that metrication is a one-off expense, but not going
metric is
> an on going expense that goes on year after year.
There are also other changes to the article but these were mostly cosmetic.
When you go to http://metricationmatters/articles you will find the 'Costs
of non-metrication' article near the top.
Cheers,
