That's true, I'm just used to associating the two that it's hard to differentiate them sometimes even though they mean different things. I think when he did specifically mention acceleration it was SI, but I might have heard a few references to the ride accelerating at a rate of feet per second.
It's very confusing, I'm sure that most of these are designed and built on a metric scale yet use of non metric or odd units still persist. I thought the engineering field had long since dropped all non SI units. Apparently not :)
