Ah the NYSDOT. I remember those guys well :) I was born and raised mostly in and around Albany and New York City.
Are the local and county builders objections because they don't want to learn metric or because of a lack of metric building supplies or what?
I really hope they don't switch back, it'll just make it that much harder when they finally decide to go metric on road signage and whatnot.
If I remember right from my trips to Toronto the highway leading into Canada had metric markings on it for a few km before the border. In fact I seem to recall that even parts of Albany had metric signage like around the airport and places.
