Sirs:
No doubt the older terms need NEW terms to popularise the SI-Metric Units.
I often discussed these with Late VB Mainkar - then Director Weights & Measures (India) during mid-70's.

Bill, Robert sirs:
In 36836 Harry Wyeth reports location "within two feet".
Then he says there is "great footage".
So, all of you: what do we say instead of "footage"?
Please help.
Years ago, I wrote as rejoinder to Charlie Wilard in "How Far Do We Metricate (Editorial); Standards Engineering (USA); 1973 October; pp 10-11" in favour of going Metric in Time Measure.

I do not recall, when: BUT during Sir Michael Foot's visit to India, I wrote a small piece for The Times of India, New Dehi (in lighter mood) to change his name to Michael Metre - my friends & India perhaps mused at such asuggestion!
Later, I used the terms:
Yard-stick or Metre-lumb: Patriot Magazine, New Delhi; 1980 October 19 - to term the length measure *from Yard-stick to Metre-lumb (the length of a metre)*; Yet Another Kiloshila: Patriot Magazine, New Delhi; 1981 August 16 - 'Kilo-shila for Mile Stone markers'. Likewise, term FOOTAGE need be replaced with the approperiate term *METREAGE*. There obviously, is a need to THINK METRIC!

In the context of his message, you'd say "great scenes," rather than great
"footage."

In addition to avoiding a word derived from a non-SI unit, it's independent of the medium on which the movie is recorded. For example, when it comes out
on DVD, should we still be referring to footage?
