My thoughts on DPI: My imaging equipment has always imaged at 100 lines per millimeter or a faster rate of 50 lines per millimeter. The imaging equipment is a plate setter. I insisted on a metric set up because the screen set for this device was designed by Germans at Heidelberg.
I always referred to my plate sizes as 1030 x 770 mm and 550 x 650 mm. Our suppliers learned to cope... It has always been strange dealing with USC units on European procession equipment. Our processors all display metric units... ml of solution per square meter. Millimeters per minute transport speed. Temperatures were in degrees Celsius. My wide format ink jet printers made by HP have metric readings on them. There are also USC units visible as well, but I have made a point of using the metric version. The unit prints 1000 linear meters per hour. Unfortunately the resolution is in DPI.
