A couple of weeks back I rented a John
Deere excavator. While discussing my options with the rental shop
manager, he directed me to the John Deere web site.
The excavators come in 3 classes, based on their
operating weight in metric tons. Additionally, the individual model
numbers are also based on the operating weight in metric tons. I rented
the entry level 17ZTS, which tips the scales at a svelte 1730 kg. The
reference label inside the cab (digging depth, swing radius, etc) was also in
meters, with inches in parentheses.
