I recall milk being sold in plastic "bags" throughout quebec.  IIRC they
went up to 4 litres and the size was pretty negotiable.  You could make
them a little wider or a little taller to suit your needs.

Heres an interesting link on various glass jar/bottle sizes.  It shows
dimensional drawing sheets, along with tolerances.  This is from an
equipment manufacturer overseas.  Naturally all given figures are
metric-only, even the "odd" sizes.
