Huh - The trip computer on my 1999 Saab 9-5 has a choice of settings, one of 
which is metric for everything.  (The odometer is analog so it's in mph and 
that can't be changed, but km is on the inside in numbers that also light up at 
night.  The odometer is in miles but if you know a friend with the gizmo that 
plugs into the car's connector you can change that.  Canadian Saabs have 
speedometers in km only with no miles at all.)
