I don't question that the Insight might get better mileage than the Prius,
only as I've said before they are different classes of vehicles. The
Insight is a two-seater while the Prius is a 4/5 seater with a hatchback and
space in the rear for luggage plus the back seats flop down to provide added
carrying space.

The best my Honda Insight does by instrument panel display of actual
measured values is 73 mpg, but only under ideal conditions; level highway,
no wind, air conditioner off, no passenger, no ethanol blend, and
continuous driving no faster than 65 mph.
Less disciplined highway driving reduces performance into the EPA range of
60 to 70 mpg, but still *easily* attainable.
Start and stop driving in town with AC on, reduces performance below 60
mpg.
The Insight does have a toggle option to display trip distance in km,
speed in km/h, fuel average consumption rate in L/100 km, and a bar graph
of momentary rate in L/100 km.
The other toggle position displays these same quantities in non-metric
units.
My brother owns a Pruis which I also drive occasionally.
With respect to fuel economy, there is no doubt in my mind that the Honda
Insight is better than the Pruis!
