I have driven in Mexico before, so I have some experience driving in metric - but not in the context of US-style freeways. (I haven't ventured to neighboring British Columbia yet) .

Since I recently moved to Seattle, I found myself having to use online mapping services to learn my way around. The problem with this was that I had to be near my computer every time I wanted to map out a route. I finally broke down and bought a TomTom GPS navigator, which can be set to metric units. What a delight to have it call out to me " after 200 m, turn right onto 35th Avenue" ! No more getting lost, and no more having to listen directions given in imperial!

Now if they would just change those pesky road signs!
