I am in the Seattle area too. My GPS V displays all in Metric units.
Also, I get my maps from Mapquest.com in Metric, as well as play in
Google Earth in Metric.
All is well.
The Garmin GPS III+ that has been mounted on the dashboard of my car since
about 2001 shows everything in SI, too. I also have it set to show 'time of
day' in 24h UTC format. My only criticism of it is that it uses the
abbreviation 'kh' for speed and 'mt' for 'meters'.
