Brown has spent the last ten years as Chancellor of the Exchequer (a fancy
name for Minister of Finance). His questions might well be "How much does
it cost?" , followed by "What are the benefits?". He is also heading an
unpopular government and the swing voters in the UK are not the most fertile
ground for pro-metric ideas.

Blair has just announced he is standing down as PM and Labour leader on June
27.

Perhaps a Gordon Brown government will be more amenable to finishing
metriction in the UK.

One can always hope.
