The Renualt Scenic's speedo can be set to show mph or km/h while the user
can select any one of a number of other items [trip recorder, fuel
consumption etc] to display in either metric or imperial units.  The change
to the display can only be done when the vehicle is stationary, so the mph
to km/h changeover can be done when you are on the [Channel Tunnel] Shuttle.

Usually UK cars have the option of UK gallons (and "current/cumulative mpg")

via the readout.  I've yet to see an in-board computer display litres 
(unless, as you have done, you reset it to show otherwise)
