[USMA:39981] unexpected metric

Here's a page I came across while researching water-cooled butter 
dishes. It looks like all the temperatures mentioned are on the Celsius 
scale and one even correctly uses the unit symbol. Wow!

At least one of the responders is apparently American (lived in the 
"deep South"). I don't know about the others.
