Had they failed to put the "F" on the packaging and tried to market the product in the UK, they would have had the Trades Description Act thrown at them. Any UK resident would have every right to assume Celsius and if boiling water caused a joint to fail when the user could justifiable assume it to hold, the supplier would probably be sued for damages.
