Bear in mind that a decrease in the number of manufacturing jobs is not 
necessarily a bad thing in
itself.  Technology continuously makes these jobs less necessary.  Machines do 
more so humans do
less.  The number of people required to build a given gadget has probably been 
decreasing for a
long time.
