Dear Heinz Foods,

Thank you for writing back about my question about Heinz and possible
metric-only labeling.

Your company has been a leader in marketing its products in units of the metric
system of measurement. As early as 1974, many years prior to the federal
requirement for dual-unit (customary and metric) labeling, you were doing it!
Those of us who support U.S. metrication know your name very well. We urge you
to accelerate your metric leadership t as follows.

Should the federal Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA) be amended to allow
U.S. manufacturers the option of labeling their products in metric units only,
we hope you will consider dropping the customary units from your famous ketchup
bottle and labeling its weight at an even 400 g. Many U.S. foods are now
marketed in even metric sizes, mainly as a result of importation from metric
countries. However, Heinz, as a U.S. company, could lead the way in making this
simple, low-cost choice of giving us "grams and grams of that great ketchup!"

SI-incerely,
