Dear Jerry,

The forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology are reported in whole numbers of degrees Celsius.

Pat,

When the media forecasts the weather do they also use tenths of a degree? When people communicate weather information do they also use tenths of a degree? Is it really necessary to use tenths for consumers?

Pat,

Does Australia actually measure temperatures to tenths of a degree?

Jerry

Yes. Go to http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV60801/IDV60801.94857.shtml for the data from Geelong Airport to see the precision of our temperatures and other weather measures. These figures are typical for all Australian weather reporting.
