Paul,

I thought that the whole idea behind a discussion group was to post so every
one can read and respond is they wished to.  So why is there a problem here?

I can only respond on weekends so my "excessive" posts are only over two days.
That however does not explain why I received 80 plus emails during the 5 days I
did not post.  Shouldn't the same advice be given to everyone?

If there is a problem with the amount of emails, then why doesn't the USMA
change over to a standard forum where such problems don't exist.  One should
not be censored because someone has a problem with mailbox capacity.

Jerry

Jerry,

Did you receive my suggestion to e-mail only individuals, and not the
list, about individual questions?  Please keep in mind that, as a subscriber,
each time you send a response to [email protected], you are sending that
message to each of the many subscribers to the list.  A handful of daily
responses to the list is OK (that is what the list is for), but if you send 20
or 30 or more responses a day, you are sending people a huge amount of e-mail,
such that you are crowding out severely those individuals' private messages.
It is the usual practice of our subscribers to respond to particular topics as
if they were sitting around a table with a subject "on the table." Also, we
reply to listserver messages by sending them to the Listserver address only, so
the recipient will not receive the message twice. We strive to send individual
messages to the person, not the list. If we didn't, we'd all have
terabyte-sized inboxes (grin). As you have
seen, some of our subscribers are experiencing something like this now.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Brian,

Are you telling me that before I signed up that this forum was dead?  If so
then you should all be happy that I joined and brought life to it!

But don't worry!  You won't see any more responses from me after today until
the end of this week.  I don't have time to respond to my emails during the
week.  So with that in mind everyone can now go back to sleep.

Jerry

I think we should rename this list the "Jeremiah MacGregor list".    My has the
email traffic more than quadrupled over the past week or so.  Wow.
