This diversity claim is a common claim of the anti-metric side. Along with destruction of culture. Have you ever known a country that was less of itself or its culture was destroyed simply by going metric? How many people in the UK or elsewhere who are concerned with the destruction of their culture openly complain of the alteration of their culture via Americanization or Westernization?
Would you agree that Americanization or westernization has altered more cultures yet there is silence, but try to bring in the metric system and all of a sudden it is an evil destroyer of cultures. I would put it down to being a jealousy between rivals. The rival French have won the measurement war and the empire loyalists are incensed.
