Thanks for the suggestion from Gene and the information from Pat (reproduced at 
the end of this msg). Here is the suggestion as I wrote it to the AP by using 
that website.

Allow (or require) the use of metric measurements when such are the primary 
units in which the information/news was generated, possibly including an 
appropriately rounded equivalent in parentheses.
To be consistent, when old English measures are reported, the appropriately 
rounded metric measure should be included.
