OpenOffice can be set up to operate in millimeters, centimeters, inches, points, or picas. I operate mine in centimeters and the scaling windows provides two digits to the right of the decimal point. So I can position elements to within 0.01 cm (i.e., 0.1 mmm). I often want that precision for some of the work I do.

I believe that OpenOffice.org provides at least one Macintosh version of its program.

For example, this is the apparent policy of the Apple Computer Company

The Apple "Pages" program does not allow millimetres as an option for

an industry standard ...

The Apple PAGES word processor on my Mac can be set to use centimetres
for it's margins and other document measurements, as Pat has noted.
However, mine does NOT divide the scales into halves and quarters of a
centimetre. On mine, the centimetres are divided into halves only.

It also allows me to select indentations, tabs, etc. in tenths of a
centimetre and even hundredths of a centimetre (but not thousandths,
which wouldn't be very useful anyway).

However, Pat is correct in noting that these things cannot be set in
millimetres.
