Maybe we could write letters or send emails to the trade organizations expected to attend the meeting and let them know the long history of the attempt for metric-only package labeling. Some trade organizations might feel it opens US companies up to competition from metric only companies overseas, but if we could stress the opportunities in opening up foreign markets where people expect to see metric-only labeling, it might help support the point.
I'm wondering if we could create a power-point presentation or youtube video on the importance and ease of metric-only labeling.
By the way, every school I have ever worked in all the science teachers have used metric only. It is just the math teachers that seem to see metric as a set of  conversion problems and not a set of " learning the think metric" problems.

Hello All:

I just heard from NIST. I asked about their participation in the EU-US High Level Working Group on Jobs and Growth.

NIST Response:

“We anticipate that the EU-US working group will focus on the stakeholder topics from a broad-high level perspective, according to the published agenda (http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policies/international/cooperating-governments/usa/jobs-growth/files/agenda-stakeholders-hlrc-10-04-2013_en.pdf).  At this time, we do not anticipate that metric labeling will be raised.  Only one trade association has brought up packaging and labeling in general.

The NIST Metric Program would not become involved in the process unless a question regarding metric labeling occurs and a formal request for information is made by the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and Department of Commerce.”

I asked which trade association had brought it up and what was their position- “It’s an EU trade association - I do not know if they have a position on metric labeling.”

Any other suggestions?

Anyone on this list able to help out with this request from the UKMA? (This message was sent today to the UKMA mailing list.)
