This is precisely what happened a few years ago when American fire-fighters (from California I believe) went to Oz to help out with fighting the huge bush fires in South Australia. They were practically useless as they couldn’t understand metric measures, and in fact their ignorance in this respect was highly dangerous. They either had to be trained in SI, or got sent home.

In the movie the majority of measurements are USC. But, they are spoken by Americans. Towards the end of the movie, Australia actors are doing most of the talking and it is all metric. The timeline of the movie is in the years 2020~2025. I don't know if it was deliberately done this way or written with one set of units and the Australians refused to speak USC and the Americans metric so it ended up with Australians speaking metric and Americans USC. With this in mind I can't imagine both Americans and Australians working together on an important project and though both speaking English, neither would give in or understand each others measurement units.
