Funny thing about government officials. They seem to live in some fictional
world where if you don’t upset the status quo you will be popular and well
loved. Well, so much for that theory, it seems the public’s approval of the
Congress is a lowly 13 %.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/166838/congress-job-approval-starts-2014.aspx

The theory goes that come voting season the voting public will vote the bums
out. But as before when such an overturn in Congress happened, nothing ever
changed for the better. So, with this in mind, what do they have to fear if
they went against the grain and just set the standard granted to them by the
constitution by making SI the only official and legal system for the US.

Maybe the public won’t be too happy, but what harm can it do as the public
isn’t that happy with the Congress anyway?

I respond to these things all the time. Practically every day I get an email or
two from the President or some political campaign asking my opinion about this
or that. I think all they really want is money. I have written hundreds of
letters to my congressmen and senators over the last 40 years about the metric
system and they all get ignored. Lately I even concentrated on sending advice
or input to specific Congressmen or Senators who have a reputation for being
"progressive" I even stressed just one political goal, a simple, achievable
goal, of adding 20 words to the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act to make metric
only package labeling legal in the USA. No response even from those who think
they are "progressive" How progressive can you be if you still use a 16th
Century measuring system?

Anyway, I think they are all about fund-raising and have really nothing to do
with actually seeking input from constituents.

          Friend --

This will only take a minute, I promise!

Take this one-question survey to tell us what issues you're most
fired up about.

You're what makes OFA stand out -- we aren't beholden to special
interests or lobbyists. You run the show around here.

If you want to get more involved in holding climate change deniers'
feet to the fire, we want to know. If you want to see more work on marriage
equality, or standing up to the anti-women efforts going on across the country,
say so.

Maybe it's immigration reform -- or fighting to give hard-working
Americans a raise.

My point is, whatever has you fired up, we want to hear about it --
tell us what's important to you today:

          Thanks,
