Hello Don H. and all.
Inspired by David Pearl’s work on LC44, both John Altounji and I who live
in California contacted the State Senator 18th District, State
Assemblyperson 34th Assembly District and State Senator 20th Senate
District. We both wrote to ask to introduce a bill to make the modern
metric SI unit system the primary and the sole system in California,
similar to LC 44 and HB 36. Two of the main points made in the letters:
1. Mentioning the gap in STEM and Core Standards and Richard Phelps’s
article “The Case for U.S. Metric Conversion Now” 1992.
2. “Failing to switch could result in the United States losing its
competitive edge in science and technology, as well as continuing to create
bilateral trade impediments with other countries.”

Also for the goal of the United States to complete its transition to the SI
metric system I wrote Congressman Kevin McCarthy 28th US Congressional
District a similar letter. However the main points I started with:
1. The United States began its transition in 1875 with The Meter
Convention. Since the 1980’s our country is more metric than not.
2. Since 2011 Saint Kitts and Nevis and other Caribbean islands, along with
Myanmar and Liberia have started a process towards Metrication. Also, the
US Army converted to SI metric system of unites. As of writing these
letters, we have not heard back yet.

Concerning metric only labeling and FPLA it will be good to keep track and
see how it will change with the comments people wrote nationwide.

Edward B.
