I recently received a reply from my city (Woodstock, GA, roughly 50 km N of Atlanta) after mailing a letter requesting trail markers be marked using the km and they seemed (vaguely) responsive to the idea.
They are currently replacing and upgrading trail signage. I illustrated in the letter general uselessness of the decimalized "mile" as a gauge for distances to trailheads and exits and included examples of why the decimal km works so much better. Besides, we get hundreds of non-American visitors who would no doubt greatly appreciate that. I'd encourage anyone and everyone here to contact them regarding this matter - even if you're not a resident of the town. I wish I had an email to share but the web site and contact information can be found here: https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.woodstockga.gov%2F89%2FParks-and-Recreation&data=02%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7C5492fe0b15a94db75d9d08d85390f67d%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C1%7C637351229360015537&sdata=2v4MkPfgw9AcJMm8mrWC3Y84Qu3rDVD9%2FNze%2FfqwqkI%3D&reserved=0 <https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.woodstockga.gov%2F89%2FParks-and-Recreation&data=02%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7C5492fe0b15a94db75d9d08d85390f67d%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C1%7C637351229360015537&sdata=2v4MkPfgw9AcJMm8mrWC3Y84Qu3rDVD9%2FNze%2FfqwqkI%3D&reserved=0> Please write them and encourage this positive change.
