No doubt you're all familiar with James Panero and Tucker Carlsons ignorant rant against SI in June of 2019. Panero got an earful from me.
James Panero 900 Broadway Suite 602 New York, NY 10003 Mr. Panero: I'm still not certain that your diatribe (along with Tucker Carlson) against the SI (the metric system) wasn't some type of bizarre performance art. Why on earth would anyone actively advocate for American ignorance? Do you know or care to know how ridiculous you sounded? Ignorance if the SI in the 21st century is noting to be proud of. Why insist we continue to keep Americans "safe" from the metric system - like some type of "special needs nation"? We spend millions of taxpayer dollars each year on time consuming, inefficient and often times dangerous conversions. Because of ignorance of the SI, we outsource labor and manufacturing and import knowledge equally. We've isolated ourselves from the rest of the globe by requiring goods and services provided in "our" units; ones that should've been relegated to history books a century and a half ago. News flash - the Imperial "system" is dead - save for one global industrial power who can't get their metric act together. Frankly, the rest of the world views us as recalcitrant and foolish. Ignorance makes for a lousy national identity. However, take comfort in knowing that voices of ignorance and propaganda such as your own still speak the loudest in the noble cause of defending obsolescence assuring yet another generation of Americans incapable of entering the sciences or manufacturing and that Americans such as myself are systemically discouraged from using this rational, modern tool of quantifying the world around them. Great job! You should be proud! GO METRIC, AMERICA! The World Is Waiting... _______________________________________________ USMA mailing list [email protected] https://lists.colostate.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/usma
