I've had similar problems when a directory has the ReadOnly permission
bit set in the FAT. In each case, root was able to make the changes
anyway, overriding the bit but a regular user couldn't. You can modify
the bits using mtools from Linux, or using the standard tools in
Windows.
# mattrib C:/mp3/iron_butterfly
R C:/mp3/iron_butterfly
# mattrib -r C:/mp3/iron_butterfly
side note: IIRC in Windows, a directory being read-only means that the
directory shouldn't be deleted rather than actually being read-only. Go
figure.
