I've always installed from floppy. With debian it's better that way anyway.
one floppy? or 3 or 4? I've always found a net installation cd (70ish MB) much easier to do than floppies. Not to mention floppies go bad when I breathe on them.
You breathe on your floppies! No wonder you've had problems!
