This is a good point.  That was the other little issue I had with this, 
there was a group named slocate on Redhat that was gid 21 (I think) and
that conflicted with an existing group on our HP-UX machines (another
"distro" I was sharing this user account with) so I had to change that
number in the redhat /etc/group to something like 521.  You'll just have
to look at things and use a little care.
