Hey, all. I just plugged in my Logitech QuickCam Express, installed the drivers (qce-ga), and ran modprobe quickcam. Who would have guessed it, but my camera works! Cool! And by cool, I mean totally sweet. [1]

Anyway, once I can saw that little picture in gnomemeeting I started longing for more. I've found that the camera is /dev/video0 and that I can capture the output of the camera by running cat on /dev/video0 and dumping that into a file.

Now, my questions are: 1) What format might that dump be in? 2) Has anybody every done anything with real-time compression? I just thought it might be cool to write my own video streaming program. Anywho, just fishing for info.
