Using Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (64 bit).

I installed the base and devel UWIN packages with no problems.

The next issue was installing a compiler. My first thought was MinGW, but after
getting nowhere fast I found an old mailing list comment that no one had been
using that since Microsoft made its compilers available for free download.

So I duly installed the Microsoft SDK, which installs the compiler for Visual
Studio 10.0. I tried to compile the standard C hello world file, but it failed
(pre-processor showed that SIZE_T_DEFINED was being set to 1 in a UWIN header
file _before_ the typedef of size_t was encountered in the Microsoft header
file, just for the record). I gave up at this point, assuming that this version
of the compiler is not supported, and noticing the lack of replies in the
mailing list archives to problems like this in the past.

Whilst disappointing, I consider that experience fair enough. What has annoyed
me sufficiently to go to the trouble of signing up for this mailing list is
that it has taken me two hours to manually uninstall UWIN, after discovering
that the Uninstaller does not work, and that there are no instructions for how
to do it manually.

I think that is very poor considering it is a known problem. I think it would
be courteous if someone with write access to the UWIN Overview web page took a
few minutes to add a warning that uninstalling UWIN from Windows 7 is an
undocumented manual process.
