In my experience, the current version of uwin requires you to explicitly run the installer as an administrator. Specifically, with UAC disabled, the installer really seems to get confused. I think it's documented somewhere, but I didn't immediately find a link.

There is a source uwin-base distribution and I am willing to try it if VC++ Express Edition is able to compile it, but the UWIN website says that it requires uwin-base binary, uwin-dev binary, and INIT, which I really don't understand because I am trying to generate uwin-base binary from uwin-source in the first place. I would appreciate it if someone could explain how or if I could use the source package.
