Hi all,
I'm relying on the collective experience of you folks, because this is my first
"project bike." I have an '85 with no carbs/airbox, top cover, scoops, crown
cover, crankcase cover, seat, blown fork seals, etc. (and I'm calling her
Pandora's Box for obvious reasons). Last night I hit a snag. The key (a copy)
that came with this bike will not:
1) Open the gas cap.
2) Turn the ignition switch to "P."
The key will turn the ignition switch "on," lock/unlock the steering column, and
open the top cover. The key fits into the gas cap and will turn the lock ~20 to
30 degrees.
Assuming it is the key, can I call my local Yamaha dealer with the VIN number
and have a new key cut (no, I don't have the owner's manual)?
Assuming it is the lock, how can I remove the gas cap without damaging the tank
or blowing myself up (tank is ~1/4 full of skunky gas)?
All thoughts, experiences, ideas, appreciated.
Regards,
Kevin
PS Anyone with carbs/airbox, top cover, scoops, crown cover, crankcase cover,
seat, etc. contact me directly. I need parts.
