Tony,
Move your pointer to the beginning part of the text you want to delete,
press and hold the left mouse button and then move the pointer to the end of
the part of the text you wish to delete. Now let go of the left mouse
button and the text will be highlighted. You can now either hit the delete
key on the keyboard or you can move the pointer to anywhere in the
highlighted area and click the "right" mouse button. A box will pop up that
has a "cut" option. I personally use the right click way since I don't have
to move my hand from the mouse and locate the delete key. A tad faster once
you're used to it.
