Wow - something to which I can really contribute! (I think!)

The good news:
I've got an excellent, medium sized (14") fairing on my Max that can be
removed in under 1 minute. The small mounts are still connected to the
handlebars though - they require an extra 2 minutes to remove if desired.
This fairing comes in clear, smoked, and several other colors if I'm not
mistaken.
I just purchased the second one for my '85 Max last fall - for only $70! -
the first one broke due to plastic degeneration after 14 years of abuse!

I've got the smoked version now, but think I liked the clear unit better
because it 'disappears' from my peripheral vision more... I think the clear
was less 'distracting'. No one else I saw @ Daytona last week had this
fairing.

Besides the miniscule gas mileage increase, I'm very sure it increases the
stability of the bike at high speeds because it flows the air much more
smoothly around the rider. Try to hold a large flat object out your car
window perpendicular to the air flow - notice how it wants to flutter?
This is just like your chest 'catching' the air on the bike. ...Not to
mention the reduction in arm & neck strain on longer rides.
This fairing may be the only reason I've had no wobble or weave on my bike
up to 135mph. I've got a picture I took on one road trip @ 125mph that
shows the fairing & speedometer - How many other guys can safely(?) ride at
that speed with only one hand? (Hahaha)

The bad news:
1. I can't remember the name or manufacturer of this unit offhand!
2. I don't have any pictures of my bike here or on the web - pretty lame
considering I'm a SW engineer!
3. It's too late to call the shop I bought it from today!

Sorry, but I'll get the info and post it tomorrow....(maybe some pic's too!)

Thanks for the in depth reply Kelly. So does a medium or small
windshield
help out much? I was really wanting a medium sized one while
driving my 500
mile trip to Daytona. But, then I decided I would never put my Max
through
those bugs again! I'm still considering a shield that will quick
disconnect
or the mini shield. Anyone notice much of an increase in MPG with
shields?
Are there any quick disconnecting shields for the max at a
reasonable price?
Some guy at daytona wanted $250 for his custom plain shield with
"easy-off
        connectors".

        Thanks,
        Howie
