No sweat.  A windshield will help YOU more than the mileage.  By
keeping the wind from hitting your chest (small shield), shoulders
(medium shield), and head (large shield), you'll be able to ride easier,
with much less buffeting.  This makes you a lot less tired over a 
long distance.   But the mileage won't change much.  You could play
with how it's mounted though.  By changing the angle of it, you may
be able to streamline the airflow some.  But I suspect not a lot.

I haven't seen any that both look nice and work well.  I put a 
National Cycle street shield on mine, with the intent of going 
to Laughlin last year, and taking it off while I was there.  I
took it off once after riding with it, and found that I MUCH 
prefer the protection.  Okay, it doesn't look as cool as no shield,
but it's not nearly as bad as it could be.  More importantly,
I'm more comfortable on a long ride.
