Chances are if they didn't leak before you will be ok.  Wrap some ultra fine
wet and dry sand paper around a file and knock off the high spots of the gouges
so it doesn't cut the lips of the seal.  I usually rate anything that will
"catch" a fingernail as too big.  However, sometimes you get lucky and they
don't leak.
