Greetings. A while back I posted a question about expected mileage on the
Vmax. At the time I was getting a consistent 25mpg. Since then, I've put
500+ miles on the bike and my mileage has risen to the 30-33mpg range on
the highway - which I must say gave me great relief. I was talking to my
Dad on the phone last night and he told me that back when he owned his 84
Honda Goldwing, he was only getting 35-ish until he drilled a few holes in
his air box, after which he saw an immediate 10+mpg increase in mileage.
Has anyone ever experimented with this technique?
He and I are going to take a little ride from Idaho Falls, ID (where he
resides)/Boise, ID (where I reside) down to Las Vegas here in about a month
or so. And the distance between some of the gas stops along the way (the
way we're going anyway) can be mighty long (150 miles or so between a
couple of them). So I'm looking for ways to increase my range. If I have
to strap on an extra 1.5 gallons, then that's what I'll have to do. But
I'm flirting with other means to increase my mileage/range right now. My
first oil change will be this afternoon or tomorrow at which time Mibile1
20w-50 motorcycle specific will go in the bike. I also plan to put another
500-700 miles on the bike before the trip to see if I can get the engine
parts to break in and, hopefully, loosen up a bit to increase my mileage
that way. I'd appreciate any and all advice on the air box drilling
question posted here or directly to me. Thanks much.
