I cut a piece of sheet metal and bent it so that a flat section slips
under the battery case, then it bends up in front of the case just
behind the headers.  If you cut it the right length (about 4 - 5 inches
high, not including the part that fits under the battery case) and bend
it right, it won't touch the headers; it will just make a reflective
shield behind them.  It will also help protect the heavy plastic shield
on top of the engine.

If you need more details, let me know, and I'll attempt to draw a
diagram.  This is a "homemade" looking fix, but not too noticeable, and
seems to work fine.
