Howie,
Do you think it is possible that this leak is tracking from the oil
filter gasket ?? Certainly doesn't sound like the transmission drain
near the shifter if you have action all the way over there. As far as
the "white powder" .. I suspect this is battery acid. Why don't you
try cleaning it off with baking soda and water ... then take a good
look at the battery drain.
