Rebuilt mine two years back. I did get the seal and dust boot from local
dealer but can't remember what the rascal looked like. Mine was also
corroded and I cleaned it up with Scotch brite pad and than crocus cloth to
polish up sealing surface. I expect you have a corroded up piston assembly
like I did and that is why you are having trouble getting it apart. As I
type I am having a dim memory of the seal being seated on a land of the
piston, I think you just gently pry it off. Do replace the seal, I tried to
cheat it first time around but after a couple of days lost clutch (air in
system) so I bought the seals. The other thing I remember is it took a long
time to bleed the system, one of the brake bleeder vacuum devices may help.
I just pumped and pumped and pumped, seems like I spent two days bleeding
the darn thing.
Good Luck!

Subject: clutch slave cylinder rebuild
Hi Terry, I'm about to take your advice and replace only the dust seal.
My Vmax is a '93 with 23K miles. I had a pretty nasty leak from that
location, which occurred quite suddenly. I have some fine rubbing
compound that I use on plastic parts to eliminate scratches which I'll
try on the piston wall. The wall does not look inordinately worn. It
does have a slight lip towards the rear of the cylinder (the side that
faces out). That should do the trick. I have the piston assembly
soaking in brake fluid so that the piston seal does not dry out. I'm
about to call Yamaha to see if I can just get the seals. I can't seem
to take the piston seal off anyway. Does it have to be cut off? Does
anyone else have and experience or advice on this? I'll let you know
my progress and/or success.
Thanks for the tips!
