Did you ever consider using a self serve car wash?  The high pressure hot
soapy water will strip it clean in about 20 seconds!  I wash my bike
regularly but am careful about what parts I get the nozzle close to.
Although most car washes run around 1,200 psi, the impact of the water
disapates as you move away from the nozzle.  For the radiator, I get about
3" away.  For the rest of the bike (except for tires and wheels), stay about
18" to 24" away.

Works great for me and so far I've never had a problem.  I just wipe it
down, start it up, and ride it for a few miles to dry it out.
